Slow down. Observe. Be present.
At the Refuge, activities are not a checklist. They are part of the experience of living in the forest. Walking slowly along the trails. Paddling on the lake at sunrise. Sitting by the fire with nothing else to do. That’s what it means to inhabit the forest.
Hiking trails & snowshoeing
10 km of maintained trails across 275 acres of forest
Our trails lead you to the lake, through mature forest, and to observation points. Some are short and easy, others longer and more technical. Walk at your own pace. Stop often. Observe the trees, listen to the birds. In winter, these same trails become spectacular snowshoe routes.
Access: Included with all stays
Difficulty: Easy to intermediate
Snowshoes: Rentals available ($)
Lake & watercraft
Canoes, kayaks and swimming on our bodies of water
The lake is your playground in summer. Head out in a canoe at sunrise when the water is calm like a mirror. Paddle to the other shore. Dive in from our swimming platforms. Watch beavers at dusk. In winter, the frozen lake becomes a vast playground for snowshoe exploration.

Nature observation
The forest is alive
Deer, beavers, hares, red squirrels, blue jays, chickadees. The forest is full of life. Bring your binoculars. Wake up early. Head out at dusk. Observe.
Doing nothing
The most important activity
Sit on your terrace with a coffee. Watch the fire. Listen to the silence. Observe the trees. Plan nothing. Accomplish nothing. Just be.
