The Team

Mathieu Cléroux, founder of the Lièvre Rouge Woodland Retreat, has poured his energy and passion into building this one-of-a-kind project since 2021.

With a background as both a canoe camping guide in the Yukon and a construction project manager in the Montreal and Gatineau/Ottawa regions, Mathieu brings a unique blend of adventure and precision to his work. His journey in both fields has shaped an approach that seamlessly combines the thrill of the wild with the meticulous care of craftsmanship.

Over the years, Mathieu also led over a dozen humanitarian trips, from Mongolia to Argentina, constructing homes for families in need. These experiences enriched his sense of purpose, reinforcing his dedication to creating meaningful spaces that respect and nurture their surroundings.

Now, with Lièvre Rouge, Mathieu draws on his broad expertise and human-centered commitment to craft an experience that balances comfort, adventure, and a deep respect for nature. The retreat embodies his profound desire to share the beauty of the forest, offering guests an authentic immersion in a preserved environment—one that inspires connection and reflection in the heart of nature.

Mathieu Roy-Chabot made the leap from Ottawa’s hospitality scene to join the Lièvre Rouge Woodland Retreat adventure in March 2024.

With a flourishing career in hospitality that took him from Montreal to Toronto, then Ottawa—and as an entrepreneur leading his own personal care products company—Mathieu brings a new dimension to the project, ensuring an exceptional guest experience.

Alongside his management skills, he serves as the resident mixologist at Lièvre Rouge. Thanks to his creativity and expertise, he has infused his personal touch into the Woodland Café-Buvette, where each cocktail is crafted to reflect the authenticity and warmth that define the spirit of the retreat.
